A modern rice milling plant in Mwea is expected to enhance value addition and income for local farmers.
Kirinyaga County has commissioned a rice milling plant to process locally grown rice from Mwea Irrigation Scheme. The facility will help reduce post-harvest losses and increase the competitiveness of locally produced rice in Kenyan markets.
Governor Anne Waiguru said the investment aligns with the county’s vision to make Mwea a national food security hub. The plant will also provide training on packaging, branding, and quality assurance.
