A new farmers’ cooperative aims to improve avocado quality, exports, and earnings for Murang’a smallholders.
Murang’a County has launched a countywide avocado cooperative to streamline export processes and ensure fair prices for farmers. The initiative will connect local growers to international markets, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, through a centralized export system.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata said the cooperative will help farmers meet international standards by offering training, certification support, and storage facilities. This comes as Kenya’s avocado exports continue to rise globally.
